The
Richmond Indigenous Gourd Orchestra is a regular feature of the Ohio Show.
"Clad in an array of gourd hats, the artist musicians had those listening
tapping their toes and dancing in their seats", said The Marion Star (Marion,
OH). From Richmond, Virginia, the Orchestra members grow gourds, make
instruments, and create music. Besides the fact that their instruments
are all gourd, they're fine musicians and performers. According to the
Style Weekly (Richmond VA), "The Richmond Indigenous Gourd Orchestra can
be mesmerizing and hilarious at the same time...and that's an achievment
that shouldn't be discounted. There's magic here...They follow folk traditions
from around the world and in some cases, rituals that echo through the
centuries." They've produced several recordings, and they have a really
cool web site at http://www.erols.com/gourd/index.html
