Shady Lane Alpacas Covid Update

      We’ve been hunkered down here at the farm along with everyone else.  We’re not having regular hours this Summer, but still welcome visitors by appointment. We’ll offer a few workshops for small groups that can be held outdoors.  The popular Blacksmithing workshops will be held Sunday July 26;  Beginning workshop at 12:30 PM, the Intermediate workshop at 3 PM.

Intermediate Blacksmith Workshop

Sunday, July 26, 2020 3:30PM. The Intermediate class begins with a fire rake project.  After you learn to make simple projects with 1/4″ rod in the Beginning class,  you are ready for the Intermediate class.  You’ll work with 3/8″ or 1/2″ stock to make a fire rake to use with your own fireplace or campfire.  If you have already taken this class, you can take it again to advance your skills;  the instructor will work with you to develop  a more difficult project.  Please wear cotton clothing and closed-toe shoes, you’ll  be working with hot metal!  In order to

You will use a gas forge to make a hook for a hanging planter, and another special item.  All materials are provided.  Please wear cotton clothes and closed-toe shoes, you will be working with red-hot metal!   In order to work safely, we limit the class to 6 participants.  This class is prerequisite to the Intermediate class which follows at 3:30pm.  You can sign up for both classes, each have a separate fee. Fused Glass Workshop

Sunday, December 8,  2-5pm.  Turn glass into jewelry!  In this class you will learn to design, cut, clean and prepare for firing.  You’ll see how the kiln fuses the glass and how to make the fired piece into jewelry for holiday gifts.  You can embellish your work with decals, if you want.  It’s fun, and you will make 5 finished pieces.  Cost $55.00.  Note that it takes 5-6 hours to fire the work, so you will need to return to pick up the finished piece. Holiday Hours for the Farm Store

Until Christmas, our Shady Lane Alpaca Farm Store will be open Fridays and Saturdays from 9 am to 6 pm, and Sundays from 1 pm to 6 pm.  We have winterized the loft store!  Much more comfortable!  We have sweaters, scarves, socks and felt boot liners, all made with alpaca fiber. And alpaca stuffed animals, gifts and crafts from Peru and Mexico! Also, we’re having another Fused Glass Workshop on Sunday December 8th 2-5 pm.  Cost is $55.00, you’ll make 5 fused glass pieces for jewelry.
